What Lies Beyond

What lies beyond this barricade

Beyond this medieval door

Beyond this beckoning stockade

Making curiosity soar

Enticing me to want much more

Than what my imaginings hold

I feel the need to go explore

But could I ever be so bold

To let my self be uncontrolled

And let my impudence enfold?

It could not be found no matter the curse

No matter how much I cajoled and coerced
So as not to be beat
I dumped all on the seat
To find that elusive chap stick inside my purse!!

Crooked Tree In Snow

Wintry wind sweeps in freezing snow

Blanketing ground laid bare of green

Beneath bark touched by shawls of white

Only a sapling years ago

In this bucolic pastoral scene

No longer young, no longer sprite

Yet when they fell you stopped the foe

Stood your ground remaining serene

The wind no match for stalwart might 

Stooped and crooked, this we can see

Yet forever my favorite tree

Stonehenge on the Salisbury Plain
Sacred landscape from the past
Overwhelming all in its domain
Questions of its origin vast

We've yet to know the reason
for this Neolithic site
A timepiece for the seasons
Or a place of sacred rites

In its shadow people wonder
To make sense of its history
I, though, don't want it torn asunder
Let it remain wrapped in mystery
